Cooper’s Alley Tunnel Painting.

We have been very excited to be involved in a 6 month project with the Metropolitan Police for a community Art Project. This is a project where the young people from our local schools have been able to contribute by designing and then painting a mural within the tunnels that are in ‘Coopers Alley’, the alleyway that runs from Deyncourt Gardens to Howard Road and then on to St Mary’s Lane opposite Coopers’ school.

We set about painting the Cranham Logo as it has such strong links to our school, our neighbourhood and James Oglethorpe.

The aim of the project is to firstly brighten this tunnel – (So far only the London Underground owned tunnel has been painted, but it is hoped that in future years the Network Rail tunnel can also be completed).and to provide our young people with a sense of pride in our community and a feeling of ownership of their environment.

The Art work will be completed next week so do go through the alleyway between Howard Road and Deyncourt to see ours and other local primary and secondary schools artwork.

More photos are available on our facebook page.

We’ve said goodbye to the chicks…

The chicks have left us today and are being re-homed by a colleague of one of our parents. Earlier on today, we took them out onto the field to let them have have a breath of fresh air – as you can see, there was no chance of any escaping!

Cream Tea

How do you have yours? Cream first then jam, or jam and then cream? These were the dilemnas facing year 5 and 6 this afternoon as they sat down to a delicious cream tea. We made the scones this morning and enjoyed a cream tea washed down with a cup of tea in traditional British Fashion. As you can see, some of us were practising our royal wave too! A wonderful way for us to start this week of British Celebrations.

Chick Hatching

It’s that exciting – or should that be eggciting, time of year. Late this afternoon, our eggs and incubator arrived and we will be watching the chicks hatch. This is such an awe-inspiring experience and we are very grateful to the PA for funding this opportunity. The chicks should start hatching tomorrow with the majority hatching on Wednesday and Thursday.
They will remain with us for 10 days and if anyone would like to re home them afterwards please contact Mrs Sewell.

Girls Cricket

We have had a fabulous day at the cricket. We got better and stronger as the day wore on and really making huge improvements with every match we played. Well done girls – I’m very proud of you all.

These are a sample of the photos – there are more on our school facebook page.

Stubbers 2016

We had a great day at Stubbers with our Year 6 children. There are many more pictures and videos available on our school Facebook page but here are some as a taster.

Orienteering Competition

We were delighted to host the inaugural Havering Orienteering Competition this afternoon. 6 schools brought 30 children to take part and we were represented by Class 11.
The afternoon was a huge success and our thanks to the Coopers’ Sports Collective and Josh Jenner, orienteering coach, for running the event. Congratulations to teams from James Oglethorpe who came 3rd, Hylands who came second and to the winners, Scotts.

Choir at Brunswick Court

On Wednesday Morning our choir were invited to sing at Brunswick Court, a retirement home in Cranham as part of their Christmas Celebrations. The singing was lovely, and even brought a tear to the eye. The behaviour of the choir was excellent. We would like to thank Brunswick Court for their invitation and hospitality and we look forward to returning next year. You will have an opportunity to hear the choir sing on Tuesday after school during our annual Christmas Carol-okie. The choir really have excelled this year.

Year 5 Astronomy Roadshow

On Thursday afternoon, Year 5 enjoyed a trip inside an inflatable planetarium. We looked at the solar system and different star constellations. We were able to use our knowledge of forces to feel what a tin of beans would weigh on different planets; Earth’s weight feels heavy compared to the Moon! It was a great afternoon!’
