Kew Gardens

Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time at Kew Gardens on Wednesday. We were amazed at all the different varieties of trees and plants that were around the grounds. This was hugely beneficial to our science topic and we have loved learning about plants and all their amazing uses. There are lots more photos available on our Facebook page.

Spelling Bee success

Year 3 and 4 visited Engayne this morning to compete in the Spelling Bee competition. We were all very excited and ready to try our best. We did very well and after some intense competition we managed to secure Second place! Well done to all our children for being fantastic representatives of our school and being excellent spellers!

Class 6 ICT

Class 6 are enjoying their ‘debugging’ element of their Scratch ICT work and have already started to explore creating backgrounds. As you can see they love experimenting.

Class 6 badminton

Class 6 worked brilliantly with a badminton coach today. They  practised  ways of using a shuttlecock with throwing and catching skills as well as using their hands to mimic a badminton racket and trying out forehand and backhand hits.
Their behaviour was a credit to JOPS.

Erupting Volcanoes

We’ve had an exciting time this afternoon watching all the volcanoes erupt.

Cross – Country at Stubbers

We are very proud of our pupils who took part in the cross country event yesterday at Stubbers.

28 schools took part from across the borough with just under 200 pupils in both races.

Our boys’ team came 15th overall and our girls’ team came 12th so well done to all involved. We are now looking forward to our next race at Pages Wood on December 1st.

Bonjour from Paris, Hornchurch

Bonjour!  30 pupils from Year 3 to 5 accompanied me to the Europa Centre in Hornchurch last Friday to try out their French!  They were escorted round the mock French town by native French speakers and had the opportunity to try out their language skills in different shops.  The highlight appears to have been the cafe where they were able to order real food and drink!  Despite being initally a little overwhelmed by the rapid French spoken by the Europa Cente staff, pupils behaved perfectly and I congratulate them for their bravery in doing their best to respond!  From Mrs Smith
“At the Europa Centre we went into a French village.  When in the shops we had to speak in French.  It was very good listening to someone who knew proper French.  We would recommend that you go on this trip if you are in KS2.  Merci!” From Samantha, Bethany, Rea and Grace – Year 5

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

Year 3 / 4 have been reading The Iron Man in literacy. This has really fired up their imaginations and as a result they have produced some fabulous work in literacy.  The book fitted in perfectly with our Recycling topic. The children brought in cardboard boxes, foil, old plastic bottles, bottle tops and other assorted reusable items.

In small groups their challenge was to build an iron man using just the materials provided. This also helped to develop their Design and Technology skills as well as working as a team.

Great fun was had by all (especially the parent helpers- you know who you are!!). The Iron Men are currently on display in the year 3 4 reading bay so please feel free to have a look at how creative your children have been.
