PE skills – Class 8

Class 8 have been practising their gymnastics skills. We
started by balancing on one leg, then balancing using just one arm and one leg
until eventually we were balancing with a partner, sometimes supported by them
entirely! The children really had to work on their strength and precision as
well as their balance. The children were very proud of their acheivements and
were keen to show off their new skills.

KS1 Festival of Sport

The very first KS1 Festival of sport was held this afternoon at Emerson Park school and we were very pleased to be among the first schools to be invited to take part.

12 children from year 2 were selected to represent our school and we had a fabulous time. There were tasters and elements of so many popular sports: hockey, basketball, rugby, football along with other game activities all promoting healthy living and an active lifestyle. The children all enjoyed themselves thoroughly and I’m sure they will all sleep well tonight!

I would like to also mention the young sports leaders at Emerson Park who worked with the children for the afternoon; they did a fantastic job of explaining, motivating and inspiring all the children from every school.

Science Fun!

Children in classes 3, 4 and 5 had a fantastic time finding out about all their senses. They sniffed unknown smells; tasted different fruits and honey; looked through tiny holes in boxes; listened to a wonderful cacophony of noisy everyday items and put their hands into black bags to feel what was inside!

Yes, we were testing our senses and had an afternoon of investigative fun in Year 1 and 2. Very many thanks go to our parent helpers who came in to assist and really helped us put on a variety of activities to really develop our understanding of why our senses are important to us and why they help us learn about the world we live in.

Grand Opening

Baking was the main theme last week as pupils weighed and measured, whipped and beat, sprinkled and iced, to mark the grand opening of
our school’s brand new Cookery Room.

IMG_0300The Cookery Room was officially opened by ‘Chef’
Derek, Havering Catering Services Manager.

The generosity of two local businesses, with links to parents at the school, ensured the pupils now have a 21st Century kitchen in which to cook some 21st Century food.

It was Mr Hobbs’ firm Howdens who donated the kitchen units and appliances. IMG_0311And Mr Pugh’s own building firm who generously fitted it.

IMG_0309 IMG_0301We were joined by one of our dads, Mr Kingston, who is a self-confessed food adventurer and the writer of the entertaining blog, Food Urchin.

A great joint parents/school project. Thank you to all involved.

Cup Cake Heaven.

IMG_0316 class 9 Cake decorating day 007We all love cup cakes and this Thursday we were in cup cake heaven when the Parents’ Association ran a very popular fund raiser with our pupils. Each child could decorate a ‘naked’ cake or biscuit. They chose from sprinkles, marshmallows, choclate buttons, icing, hundreds and thousands, you name it they could choose it!

It was a pleasure to see the children so focussed and excited. They tried hard to come up with original ideas and some of their cakes and biscuits are real show stoppers.

Thank you to the parents who stayed all day for this event and worked hard encouraging and helping, especially to Mrs Owers (the icing Queen).
