Sorry about the dreadful pun! I have just witnessed one of the most inspirational sights of my career. Young Emily N of Class 10 has this afternoon had her lovely long hair shaved off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.
Her beautiful long pony tail was first to go to a massive round of applause from the pupils in year 5 and 6 who turned up with staff to show 100% support.
We cheered and clapped when first the right side of her head was cut down to a number 1 and then cheered and clapped some more when the whole lot came off.
“Oh my gosh,” she exclaimed when she saw herself in the mirror – and we cheered and clapped some more.
Emily smiled and sang throughout to her favouite song – especially chosen for the event – ‘What have you done today to make you feel proud.’
Her ponytail will be donated to the charity ‘Little Princess’ who make wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.
Emily looks fabulous in her new hair style and the final song that played out as Charlotte, the stylist from Uppercut, finished brushing her down was Stevie Wonder singing, ‘Isn’t she lovely.’
We all agree that Emily is an inspiration to us all. At the last count she had already raised a fantastic £2,500!!!
The children in Emily’s team were marvellous and they called out messages of support as she was waiting for the clippers to warm up. I’ll leave the last word to Freddie F who said she was, ‘an amazing girl with an amazing goal.’
Please dig deep – there’s still time to donate. Visit this week’s Friday Flyer on our website to find the link to her Just Giving page.
