The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

Year 3 / 4 have been reading The Iron Man in literacy. This has really fired up their imaginations and as a result they have produced some fabulous work in literacy.  The book fitted in perfectly with our Recycling topic. The children brought in cardboard boxes, foil, old plastic bottles, bottle tops and other assorted reusable items.

In small groups their challenge was to build an iron man using just the materials provided. This also helped to develop their Design and Technology skills as well as working as a team.

Great fun was had by all (especially the parent helpers- you know who you are!!). The Iron Men are currently on display in the year 3 4 reading bay so please feel free to have a look at how creative your children have been.

100 Percent Progress in Class 12!

It was pacey, it was pressured, it was percentages! I enjoyed a great lesson on ‘percentages’ with Class 12, Mrs Dehavilland and Mrs Stanton this morning. They were really buzzing with ideas, questions, short cuts and answers. Mrs Dehavilland got time off for good behaviour as two children acted as ‘teacher’ for a while at the board, to demonstrate their methods. Parents – ask them to work out 5% of any number – they will amaze and delight. A great lesson, thank you so much. (Ms Rowles)

Tiny Acorns to Mighty Oaks

This evening the Foundation Stage Team and Ms Rowles had the pleasure of meeting with the parents of our brand new pupils who start life as little ‘James Oglethorpers’ from September this year. It was lovely to see everyone and start to put names to faces. It may all seem strange right now but it won’t be long before strangers become friends and you’ll feel right at home.

Class 11 have a baby!

Well – not technically a baby – a baby butterfly. In our life cycles work in science we have been watching caterpillars turn into chrysalis and today our first butterfly hatched! We are waiting now for the other 4 to emerge and then we will set them free.
